Early Life

Akshay Kumar was born in Punjab to Hari Om Bhatia and Aruna Bhatia. His real name is Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia. He studied at Don Bosco School in Delhi and later moved to Mumbai. After attending Guru Nanak College, he went to Bangkok to learn martial arts. While in Bangkok, he worked as a waiter and chef to support himself. Later, he returned to India and started a martial arts school in Mumbai. This led him to modeling, and eventually, he entered the film industry.

From being a martial arts teacher to becoming one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, Akshay Kumar is an inspiration to many. In 2001, he married Twinkle Khanna, daughter of actors Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. Twinkle is a writer, interior designer, and former actress. The couple has two children, Aarav and Nitara.

Acting Career

Known as the “Khiladi” of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar made his acting debut in 1991 with the film Saugandh. His breakthrough came in 1992 with Deedar, directed by Pramod Chakraborty. The movie was a success, and he soon got more offers from well-known directors. That same year, he acted in Mr. Bond, a movie inspired by James Bond.

In 1993, he appeared in films like Dil Ki Baazi and Qaid Mein Hai Bulbul. The following year, he played a police officer in Mohra and Main Khiladi Tu Anari, both of which were among the highest-grossing films of 1994. His role in Main Khiladi Tu Anari earned him the title “Khiladi Kumar.”

While he gained fame as an action hero, Akshay also did romantic and comedy films. Some of his best romantic movies include Dhadkan, Andaaz, and Yeh Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya. In the 2000s, he starred in hit comedy films such as Namastey London, Singh Is Kinng, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Garam Masala, and Phir Hera Pheri. Over time, he also acted in biopics and inspirational movies like Airlift, Kesari, Pad Man, and Mission Mangal.

Awards and Achievements

Akshay Kumar has won several Filmfare Awards and received India’s fourth-highest civilian award, Padma Shri. In 2017, he won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in Rustom.
