On January 13, Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, tweeted, “Okay fine, I’ll buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned,” in a lighthearted manner.

However, the next day, he seemed more serious, sharing, “Unironically, I’ve had so many billionaires reach out to me since I tweeted this, let’s see if we can pull this off.”

Reactions from Social Media Users
The tweet quickly gained attention, with fans offering mixed reactions. Some expressed excitement, encouraging him to “make history” by saving the app, while others questioned whether he had the financial muscle to follow through.

“Jimmy, you don’t have the money to buy a huge app like TikTok,” one user commented. Another remarked, “You’re not @elonmusk and never will be.” On the other hand, some users voiced their support, with one saying, “Please do… We need you.”

TikTok’s Ban Threat

This buzz comes as the deadline for a possible TikTok ban nears. Last year, President Biden signed a law requiring ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, to sell its U.S. operations by January 19 or face a ban.

Meanwhile, other prominent figures like Kevin O’Leary from Shark Tank and former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt have shown interest in buying TikTok to safeguard user privacy, though ByteDance remains firm in its refusal to sell.

O’Leary wrote on X, “This isn’t just about buying TikTok’s U.S. assets—it’s about something much bigger: protecting the privacy of 170 million American users.”

In an unexpected turn, rumors suggested that China might consider Elon Musk as a potential buyer, though TikTok quickly dismissed these as “pure fiction.”
