Brokeback Mountain, released in 2005 and directed by Ang Lee, featured Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, and Michelle Williams in significant roles. Not only was the film critically acclaimed, but it also enjoyed commercial success. It earned several Oscar nominations, winning three. The movie grossed $83.04 million in the U.S. and another $95 million overseas, bringing its global total to $178.06 million.

Meanwhile, Nosferatu has been holding strong at the U.S. box office, surpassing Brokeback Mountain‘s earnings as of now. According to Luiz Fernando’s report, the film grossed a solid $727K on its third Monday, with only a 44.3% drop from the previous week. Despite losing 50 theaters last Friday, the gothic horror film is still playing in 3,082 theaters across the U.S. and has accumulated $82.6 million. It is now less than $1 million away from overtaking Brokeback Mountain’s $83.04 million and claiming the third spot in Focus Features’ box office history. The film is on track to gross between $95 million and $105 million in the U.S.

Nosferatu has also performed well internationally, grossing $53.5 million. Its worldwide total now stands at $136.1 million. The film, which opened in U.S. theaters on December 25, continues to show impressive results.
