Padmaavat, the second highest-grossing film of 2018, is just 41.22 crore away from topping the box office chart of that year. See Sankranthiki Vasthunam Box Office: Venkatesh’s Biggest Hit, Tops 33.14 Crore in Week 1!

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor, is all set for a re-release on January 24, seven years after its original debut. Despite the controversies surrounding its release, the film became one of the highest-grossing movies of 2018, drawing large audiences to theaters.
Second Highest-Grossing Film of 2018
Padmaavat earned an impressive 300.26 crore at the box office, despite facing significant backlash during its release. However, due to its massive production budget, the film couldn’t achieve a “hit” status. Nevertheless, it still ranked as the second highest-grossing film of 2018, trailing only behind Sanju, starring Ranbir Kapoor.
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmaavat holds a solid IMDb rating of 7.1. The film’s official synopsis reads, “Set in medieval Rajasthan, Queen Padmavati is married to a noble king, and they live in a prosperous fortress with their subjects until an ambitious Sultan hears of Padmavati’s beauty and becomes obsessively enamored with her.”
Just 41.22 Crore Away from the Top Spot
Though Padmaavat amassed 300.26 crore, it is still 41.22 crore short of Sanju‘s box office record of 341.22 crore, securing the top position of 2018. With its re-release, there’s speculation whether Padmaavat could bridge that gap and dethrone Sanju to become the highest-grossing film of 2018.
If Padmaavat manages to surpass Sanju, Deepika Padukone’s film would claim the top spot, while Ranveer Singh, who already holds the second and third positions for Simmba and Padmaavat, would dominate with both the first and third spots. Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju would then drop to second place.
