Sankranthiki Vasthunam, starring Venkatesh in the lead role, is just five days away from hitting theaters. The film is set to release on January 14, and several factors are working in its favor. At the North American box office, the film has a relatively low target to break even, which seems achievable. But with strong competition, will it make it? Let’s take a closer look. Directed by Anil Ravipudi, Sankranthiki Vasthunam is a Tollywood action-comedy featuring Meenakshi Chaudhary, Aishwarya Rajesh, Srinivasa Reddy, and others in key roles. Although Venkatesh’s previous film, Saindhav, was a big flop, his upcoming Sankranti release looks promising. One of the biggest positives is the successful track record between Anil Ravipudi and Venkatesh. The duo previously collaborated on F2: Fun and Frustration and F3: Fun and Frustration, both of which were major box office hits. This gives hope for Sankranthiki Vasthunam to perform well at the box office too.
However, the film will face tough competition. Two big films—Game Changer starring Ram Charan and Daaku Maharaaj starring Nandamuri Balakrishna—are releasing ahead of the Sankranti festival, which means many screens will be taken by these films. Against such strong competition, Sankranthiki Vasthunam will need strong word-of-mouth to succeed.
As far as the North American box office is concerned, the film needs to earn $1.35 million (approximately ₹11.59 crore) to break even. In comparison, Venkatesh’s F2: Fun and Frustration earned around ₹15.10 crore in North America, so the target for Sankranthiki Vasthunam isn’t very high. The main concern, however, is the screen space and audience split among the three major Sankranti releases.
It remains to be seen if Sankranthiki Vasthunam can overcome the competition and create a successful run at the North American box office.
