Since Avengers: Endgame, the MCU has faced some challenges at the box office, with several films struggling to capture the same magic as earlier hits. However, last year’s success with Deadpool and Wolverine, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide, has brought some hope back to Marvel Studios. This has increased the pressure on Brave New World to maintain that momentum.
For those unfamiliar, Captain America: Brave New World is the 4th film in the Captain America series, following the events of the The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney+ series. Directed by Julius Onah, the film underwent several changes, including a title change and reshoots between May and November 2024. It is part of the MCU’s Phase Five.
According to Box Office Theory’s 5-week tracking forecast, Brave New World is expected to have a modest opening at the North American box office. The film is projected to earn between $87 million and $107 million during its opening weekend in the United States. For comparison, here are the opening weekend numbers for the previous three Captain America films:
- Captain America: Civil War (2016) – $179.1 million
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) – $95.02 million
- Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) – $65.05 million
With the forecast, Captain America: Brave New World is likely to open near The Winter Soldier’s debut collection. The predicted range is also similar to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which earned $106.1 million on opening weekend. This projection is 75.7% to 103.1% higher than the disappointing $46.11 million debut of The Marvels. Meanwhile, the Deadpool and Wolverine films remain untouchable with their massive $211.43 million opening weekend.
