Directed by Halina Reijn, Babygirl follows Kidman’s character, a powerful CEO who risks her career and family by beginning an affair with her intern. With an estimated production budget of $20 million, the film has already recouped its costs. To break even, it needs to earn at least $50 million, and considering the success of similarly budgeted films last year, hitting that target is certainly within reach.
According to a report by Luiz Fernando, Babygirl earned a strong $602K on its fourth Friday, despite losing 427 theaters and competing with several family-friendly PG films. The movie experienced only a slight 29.8% drop from the previous week, even with fewer screens, and is currently playing in just 1,460 theaters across the U.S.
By the end of its fourth Friday, the film had accumulated $23.9 million domestically, and it’s on track to bring in another $2-3 million over the weekend. With this performance, Babygirl is set to surpass the $25 million mark at the U.S. box office. Internationally, the film has earned approximately $5.3 million, pushing its global total to $29.28 million.
In exciting news, Babygirl has now surpassed A24’s 2017 film The Disaster Artist, which grossed $28.72 million globally, making it the 19th highest-grossing film in the studio’s history. Not only has Babygirl recovered its $20 million budget, but it has also earned 46.4% more than that. It is now trailing behind Priscilla, which grossed $30.9 million in 2023.
Released in the U.S. on December 25, Babygirl continues to perform strongly, cementing Nicole Kidman’s role as a leading force at the box office.
