Naga Chaitanya’s upcoming film, Thandel, is generating a decent buzz, raising hopes for a strong box office performance. However, the actor’s recent track record hasn’t been favorable. Aside from Bangarraju, which featured his father Nagarjuna alongside him, most of Naga’s post-pandemic films have struggled to achieve significant box office success. Now, with Thandel, he’s hoping for a major comeback, though the film faces a substantial breakeven challenge. Let’s dive into the details!

Written and directed by Chandoo Mondeti, Thandel is a romantic survival drama set to hit theaters on February 7. The film also stars Sai Pallavi as the female lead. Unlike Naga’s recent projects, Thandel has managed to create some excitement, largely driven by its soundtrack composed by Devi Sri Prasad. Several songs from the album have been well-received, which could help boost the film’s opening.

In recent updates, it has been revealed that Thandel has made a strong impression in pre-release business, especially with its theatrical deals for the Telugu version. According to a report from Track Tollywood, the rights for the coastal Andhra Pradesh region have been secured for ₹12-13 crores. In the Ceded region, the rights were valued at ₹5.5 crores, and in Nizam, they are priced at ₹11-12 crores. The total pre-release business in the Telugu states is estimated at around ₹30 crores. When factoring in rights for other parts of India, the overseas market, and other associated costs, the total figure rises to ₹40 crores.

For Thandel to break even, it will need to achieve a global share of ₹40 crores. This is no small feat, as none of Naga Chaitanya’s films have reached a ₹40 crore share so far. In terms of box office performance, the film will need to earn over ₹70 crores globally in gross revenue from its Telugu version alone to cover its costs.

Much of the film’s success will depend on the impact of its trailer, which is expected to be released next week. If it resonates well with audiences, it could give Thandel the momentum it needs to perform strongly at the box office.
